Printing guidelines

Prepare 3D files for dependable review and printing

Good print data reduces questions, estimation errors and unnecessary post-processing. These guidelines describe the minimum technical information for online calculation; they are not an engineering approval for the intended use.

Geometry and scale

Where possible, export a closed solid without open edges, duplicate faces or self-intersecting shells. Verify all three outer dimensions after upload. STL and OBJ may require an explicit choice of millimetres or centimetres.

  • Export only the final manufacturing geometry
  • Remove internal helper faces and duplicates
  • Check tiny details and thin walls
  • State a reference dimension for critical sizes

Fits, holes and function

Nominal CAD size and printed size are not automatically identical. Material, orientation, part size and post-processing affect the result. Plan clearance deliberately and identify function-critical dimensions.

Threads, snap fits, thin webs and continuously loaded areas should be designed for FDM and tested first where necessary.

Information that belongs in the order

State intended use, load direction, temperature, moisture, outdoor use, visible faces and relevant tolerances. Food-contact, medical, electrical or safety-relevant parts must be identified before ordering.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I send several bodies in one file?

If several bodies are to be produced together, their number, arrangement and purpose must be clear. Separate line items are usually easier to verify.

What wall thickness is safe?

There is no universal value. Nozzle, geometry, material, load and orientation determine it. Functional thin areas should be tested before a batch.

Are files repaired automatically?

Problematic geometry can be detected and flagged, but automated analysis does not guarantee a constructively correct repair.
